24 02 2010

Here are some helpful tips to get you started:

1. Get the person’s name right.

2. Ask a few qualifying questions before launching into a sales pitch.

3. Don’t ramble on.

4. Don’t introduce irrelevant information.

5. Don’t pretend to have knowledge you don’t have.

6. Don’t sound too eager – it makes you sound amateurish or desperate.

7. Don’t offer to many alternative times and dates for an appointment it confuses.

8. Confirm appointments in writing.

9. Prepare a script.

10. Smile when dialing.

In my business of graphics and website design, cold calling turned out to be not as bad as I thought. Here’s my system. First, I go online and pick out websites that I feel may need new photography, new content, better graphics or flash. I look for websites that are a couple of years old and is need of a makeover. Then I call, mention that I have noticed their website and then I ask them a few questions. If they say no, then I offer to send them an email with all of my information including the website address of my online portfolio (http://www.macjacwebdesign.com)

My advice …. don’t be scared …. give it a try today! …. you have nothing to lose.

Have any tricks or tips of your own and want to share ….. use the comment box below …. would love to hear from you.

Have a great day
Julie
